Generally, we recommend that pregnant women should not work over eight hours a day or 40 hours a week.
We usually advise against working for women who have:
- High-risk pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia
- Growth delay
Standing and working in normal heat does not usually affect pregnancy.
We will notify you if we feel that you should not work during your pregnancy.
Please note that we will not be able to provide a legal “Excuse from work” letter for you to leave your job unless there is a medical complication of your pregnancy.
Pregnant women should avoid workplace hazards such as exposure to:
- Solvents
- Metals
- Chemicals
- Pharmaceutical agents
- Extreme heat
- Infections.
Heavy lifting or climbing ladders (due to the danger of falling) should be avoided.
